Boyer's Big Adventure!

After 10+ years of medical school in Moscow, Idaho and Seattle, WA, residency in Iowa and a fellowship in hand surgery in St Louis, MO, Holly and Jeff are finally done! We're so proud of them and thankful they are moving a little closer to the west coast. Jeff accepted a job at Idaho Hand Center in Boise, Idaho. Congratulations to Dr. Boyer!
Jeff had to stay in St Louis to finish his fellowship until July 31 and their new home in Boise closed on July 19. Holly was anxious to get to Boise to get settled and get the kids registered for school, so Jeff helped drive the family to Utah on July 19-21. We had a family reunion scheduled Aug 1-5 in Heber, UT, so the plan was for Jeff to drive their other car and meet Holly and the kids in Utah after his fellowship was over with.

Since Holly needed help in Boise, I was happy to be able to go help her, so I drove to Utah on July 19 by myself and spent a couple of nights with Mom. Here is a picture of me on my roadtrip. It went very fast and I listened to a book on CD the whole time, so it was a good trip.
I arrived on Friday evening and on Saturday night, Mom, Kathy, Dennis and I were able to go to the Scera Shell to watch my favorite "The Sound of Music". The cast did a fabulous job and I love the outdoor theater. It was a beautiful evening and it was nice to have it cool - I even needed a light jacket!

Sunday morning I went to church with Mom, and that afternoon Kathy was going to drive me to SLC to meet the Boyers. While we were at church, Holly left a message and said they were coming through Provo instead of SLC, so they would just pick me up. Mom and I hurried and prepared some lunch for everybody, so Boyers were able to have a quick visit with Mom, Kathy and Dennis before we left. Holly & Jeff's car was packed, but they were able to squeeze me and my huge suitcase in! Here is a picture of us on our way to Salt Lake. We dropped Jeff off at his sister's house in West Jordan and they took him to the airport that evening so he could fly back to St Louis. Holly, the kids and I drove on to Boise. I left my car at Mom's, which worked out great because Michael and Mallory were able to use it when they arrived in Utah for our reunion.

We had to stop about 3 times on our way to Boise so Miss Emily could eat and it seemed like we would never get there, but we finally arrived late Sunday night. We stayed at Country Inn and Suites. Holly's realtor dropped the key to their new house off at the front desk of the hotel, so we were able to get into the house on Monday. Before we did, however, we decided to take advantage of the hotel swimming pool and let the kids swim while Holly and I took turns showering and getting ready.

While I was at the pool, I got to snuggle with this little cutie and watch Claire swim like a little fish! I didn't get a picture of Ethan swimming unfortunately.

We checked out of the hotel and went right to the new house. I took this picture of Holly and the kids removing the for sale sign! It was so fun walking into a brand new, sparkling house that smelled so new and fresh. Unfortunately, the movers weren't able to bring furniture until Friday and we arrived on Monday.
Here is their beautiful new home
And, an extra bonus out in the back yard, is a mama cow and her to calves. They were so cute and we loved watching them.
Lucky for us, Holly brought these camping chairs and she bought a refrigerator and washer and dryer pretty quickly, so at least we had those! We moved the camping chairs into the dining room when it was time to eat and back into the family room when we were done! And we ate out a lot! The first night we got Papa Murphy's pizza and baked it (we did have an oven!) and Holly brought  lots of paper goods with her.
Emily had her pak and play and Holly and I each had an air mattress. However, Claire and Ethan slept on the floor for the week, but they didn't seem to mind a bit.
Here are Emily and Ethan on my air mattress

We were excited when Holly's new washer and dryer arrived! They came just in time and were put to good use immediately!
So, since we couldn't do much else, we needed to keep the kids busy, so I took the kids to a movie one afternoon and we went to a water park another afternoon.
In order to go down the water slides, Claire had to prove to the lifeguard that she could swim half way across the pool and after she did, they stamped her hand. We were surprised when Claire went down this water slide with the big drop all on her own.
Ethan went down the smaller water slide with Holly and once he went down, he didn't want to stop! I was content staying with Emily while she slept the afternoon away in her stroller.

One night we went to get pizza and ice cream in Eagle, ID and afterwards, Claire and Ethan splashed around on this splash pad. They didn't have their swim suits, but that didn't stop them from having a blast!
Since they had so much fun at that splash pad, Holly found another one for them to go to the next day, this time with their swim suits. It was at a beautiful park.

And sweet Emily was such a good baby and went with the flow through all of our adventures!
Holly's house is pretty close to H-P, where Bryan worked 34 years ago.
And, we were able to drive by our first home at 4089 Patton Ave. The house doesn't look too bad, but the neighborhood is very run down and I would say, not in a very nice part of town anymore. I was also able to visit our friends, Russ and Rena Firkins. Rena and I went to Kneaders for lunch and caught up on each other's lives. They were such good friends when we lived in Boise.
The movers finally came on Friday morning right on time - actually, about 10 minutes early - I was just blow drying my hair and had to hurry and finish. I was the person who checked off the boxes as the movers took them into the house. So, I sat in a camping chair in the garage and Holly stayed inside to direct traffic.

THIEF MOVER: We had one horrible experience with the movers. I was staying in Emily's bedroom and my suitcase was in there. Holly started to walk down the hall towards Emily's room and saw one of the movers looking inside my suitcase!!! So disgusting! He heard her coming and hurried and closed the suitcase and walked nonchalantly out of the room like nothing had happened. Holly came into the garage to tell me and I remembered that I had a large amount of cash in my suitcase, so she took over for me while I went to check my suitcase. Luckily, he didn't have time to find it, but I removed valuables from my suitcase and hid them in the kitchen, where Holly had hidden our purses.

At the end of the move, Holly told the supervisor what had happened, and she was horrified. She said she would take care of him and he wouldn't be working for them on the next job. After that, Holly and I were freaked out because he was a local guy and we were afraid they would fire him and he would go get drunk and come and get us in the night. Holly set booby traps up at every door and I kept a hammer under my pillow! Claire dubbed the guy Thief Mover, and we were all happy to wake up the next morning still alive!

One other unfortunate thing about the move was that as we opened boxes, we realized that somewhere in the move - either the warehouse or the moving van - everything was exposed to cigarette smoke. The items inside most of the boxes wreaked of smoke and the mattresses all smelled bad too. We had to wash EVERYTHING - blankets, sheets, pillows, clothes. Her poor brand new washer got quite a workout. Holly and I took the mattresses outside for 2 days and brought them back in at night. We sprayed them with vinegar and sprinkled them with baking soda and the smell finally went away. But, it was so much additional work airing everything out and washing everything that it took a lot of our time.

Since the chairs were being used for the mattresses, we were back to camping chairs for our meals, but at least we had a table!

It was nice to have a sofa to sit on! Emily looked so cute in her pretty dress. This was Sunday afternoon.
The Boyer's new ward in Boise is so friendly and nice. And their neighbors are super nice. Actually, everybody we ran into in Boise was very nice! Two neighbors brought dinner into us the night before the movers came and it was so sweet of them. One of them was the Stake President's wife and one was not a member of the church.

Our last night in Boise, we went to Red Robin for dinner. We were all excited to leave the next day for Utah and meet up with the rest of our family. Ethan was especially excited to see his Dad, who he missed so much.
I will forever treasure these memories we made in Boise. It was so fun to be there with Holly and the kids and experience the adventures we had. I'm so thankful to Bryan for taking over my real estate clients while I was gone for almost 3 weeks. He is such a wonderful husband and I'm thankful for all that he does for me.
