I had a wonderful trip to Utah February 15-22. I was so excited when I learned that Allegiant Airlines opened up flights from Mesa to Provo in February, so I was actually on the first Allegiant Airline flight into the Provo Airport! As we landed, they announced that the media might be on the ground to take pictures of us or interview us since it was the first flight. I had no idea it was the first flight until then! Well, I didn't see any reporters, but there was a picture of the plane in the Daily Herald Newspaper. I always hoped there would be flights into Provo so we didn't have to go to Salt Lake, but I seriously never thought it would happen in my lifetime! It was so nice for Kathy and my Mom to be able to drive 15 minutes to pick me up and it's a drive Mom can do by herself since she can take back roads and doesn't need to use the freeway. It was pretty funny because I picked up my luggage right from the luggage cart that they used to get the luggage from the airplane. They told us to go find our luggage and take it. I'm sure they will change this eventually, but it was pretty funny. I loved how low-key everything was.
While I was in Utah, I was able to visit Mallory's Mom at Primary Children's Hospital. She is living in SLC right now while Mal's sister, Kaitlyn, is treated for leukemia. It was good to visit with MariLou. I was also able to visit with our wonderful friends, Gary and Sharon Wright. Sharon and I went to dinner together at CostaVida and we had so much fun catching up. I miss her and wish we lived closer together.
On Sunday, Feb 17, we were able to have an open house for my Mom for her 83rd Birthday. Matt and kids came, along with Kathy, Dennis, Riley and Derek & Melinda and family. Kathy ordered this beautiful cake for Mom and we had fun visiting.
On Mom's actual birthday, Doug & Kay, Kathy & Dennis and I took her out to dinner at Mimi's Cafe, which is Mom's favorite place to eat. I also took Mom to get some freebies on her birthday - Krispy Kreme and Red Robin and we went to see the movies 'Les Miserables' on her birthday and 'Lincoln' the next day.
I enjoyed getting some exercise while I was in Orem. I was able to walk with Denise and Kathy at the mall and I also walked around the track at the Fitness Center while Mom exercised and went into the hot tub. I was able to visit my niece, Brenda, and see her new home and I was also able to go out to lunch with my friend, Kathy Murphy and visit with her and Floyd while Mom was at Yesherah.
Mom and I were also able to visit with Fred and Sarah Baird and my longest and dearest friend, Jill Allen. Jill got some take-out from Panda Express and we met at Baird's house for dinner and visiting. Jill's parents are my 2nd parents because I spent so much time at their house growing up. Also, Bryan was Fred Baird's counselor in a BYU Branch Presidency right after we got married, so we have a special bond with them. Jill is as sweet as ever and I loved seeing her again.
Kathy, Mom and I were able to go to the outlets at the point of the mountain and shop for Mom's birthday present. We had a very fun time and enjoyed lunch at Johnny Rockets! We went all out and enjoyed a burger, fries and a malt! Ouch - that wasn't so good for the diet, but it was delicious.
I was able to fit a lot in during my time in Utah and I loved it. Mom and I were even able to do a puzzle on the day it snowed and was stormy outside. I love my yearly trip to Utah for her birthday.
